ADL Audit of Antisemitic Incidents 2020

- In 2020, the Anti-Defamation League tabulated 2,024 reported antisemitic incidents throughout the United States – the third-highest year on record since the ADL began tracking antisemitic incidents in 1979 (https://www.adl.org/audit2020).
- Of the 2,024 incidents, 1,242 were cases of harassment, a 10% increase from 2019 (https://www.adl.org/audit2020).
- Over the course of one week during the May 2021 conflict between Israel and Hamas, variations of the phrase “Hitler was right” were tweeted more than 17,000 times (https://www.adl.org/audit2020).
- From May 11 – May 31, 2021, antisemitic incidents increased 115% from the same time period in 2020 (https://www.adl.org/audit2020).

- During the 2021 conflict between Israel and Hamas, 60% of American Jews witnessed behavior or comments that they deemed antisemitic (https://brandeiscenter.com/1st-poll-of-openly-jewish-college-students-reveals-65-felt-unsafe-50-hid-jewish-identity/).
- In a 2021 study from the Cohen Research Group, 70% of Jewish college students surveyed reported having personally experienced, or were familiar with, an antisemitic attack in the past 120 days, with 65% of students feeling unsafe on campus due to physical or verbal attacks (https://brandeiscenter.com/1st-poll-of-openly-jewish-college-students-reveals-65-felt-unsafe-50-hid-jewish-identity/).
